How to get your Bridal Makeup to last!
As a professional traveling makeup artist, the number one request I get from clients is, “just make it last all day!!” Whether you’re eloping in Montana, walking down the aisle in front of 200 people, or going to the courthouse, you just want your makeup to last the entire time without worrying if it’s separating and slipping off your face! With hundreds of photographed clients across the US, Hawaii, and Mexico under my belt, I have perfected techniques that are proven to get your bridal makeup to last all day AND night!
First, you have to start off with a clean and hydrating base. Chances are, if you’ve sat in my chair I’ve prepped your skin with the First Aid Beauty Exfoliating Pads and moisturized with the Bobbi Brown Face Base as that is one of my favorite combos to use under bridal makeup. Using something to lightly exfoliate any dead or dry skin cells off first then re-hydrating your skin using a non-greasy moisturizer is key to getting your makeup to stay all day! The better the skin, the better the makeup is going to look and last.
Layers, it’s all about light layers of cream products. This is how you get a seamless blend of products that photograph well and have longevity. Specifically blush and bronzer. Blush can be one of the first products to kind of just disappear off the face… to avoid that, I always go in with a cream or liquid blush and top it with a powder blush that complements it. This creates a truly blended appearance with staying power! My favorites are the Juvia’s Place Liquid Blushes (super pigmented) and the DIBS Beauty Desert Island Duos. I love the Desert Island Duo sticks because you get a cream blush and contour in one product for a great price! The shade range is incredible and these are extremely blend-able and user friendly. I always top with a powder bronzer to create extra staying power for my brides! A combo like this is going to create a complexion that is radiant, defined, and lasting until the final send off!
We are saying no to runny raccoon eyes and leaving the black flakes on our cheeks in the past! Waterproof mascara is just a must, especially if you are walking down the aisle to marry the love of your life. I trust my life with the Essence Lash Princess Waterproof Mascara, it literally does not come off and it sits at an incredible price of $4. If you want your mascara to last and your falsies to blend to you need to secure your bridal look with this tear-proof step.
A look isn’t complete without a lip that ties everything together! As an artist, I carry an array of colors and finishes to create the perfect lip for your big day. One that looks great, doesn’t transfer, and lasts all night. A technique I like to use on my brides to get their lip color to last is setting the Huda Beauty or MAC lip liners with a light dusting of translucent powder so that it does not budge. This layer also creates grip for the lip color to hold onto. I like to use the Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks or Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paints that dry semi matte so that I can top them with a cream sheen or a pigmented gloss. All of this combined is designed to create a kiss-proof, long-lasting lip combo.
Finally, you wouldn’t leave the nail salon without a top coat, you wouldn’t shampoo your hair and not condition, and now you won’t be walking down the aisle without setting your makeup in place! This is sealing all the creams, liquids, and powders together to create a secure look that won’t be sliding off your face after you say, “I do!” I always incorporate these setting sprays into my professional bridal makeup process by using the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist, REFY Face Setter Hydrating Setting Spray in between layers and the One Size Beauty On ‘Til Dawn and Skindinavia Bridal Setting Spray to lock it all in.
Adding these steps into your bridal makeup routine is sure to create a long-lasting look you’ll love forever. Overwhelmed with where to start? Let’s book a consultation call and talk about your bridal makeup dreams and how we can create some magic!
